The wheeled and tracked robots are not a viable solution for traversing through complex and cluttered terrains of the most landmass of the earth. However the freedom to choose contact points with the environment allows legged robots to overcome obstacles during locomotion and have potential to traverse through complex terrains. Such capabilities may enable legged robots to rescue people during natural disasters, to carry payloads for manual work, inspect underground tunnels and explore remote planets.
